Emergency Management Plan
Emergency Drills
At HWHPS, we have a number of emergency drills that are regularly tested as a precaution. The safety of our students, staff and anyone on site is our sole concern, so it is important that we have these drills as efficient and effective as possible. Here are the procedures in place for different drills.
External Fire Drill
This is where there is an internal fire in the school. Students must follow all instructions of teaching stuff. Teachers escort students to safety on the school oval.
Internal Fire Drill
This drill is practised in the event that there is a fire outside of the school buildings, e.g. on the oval. In this drill, students remain in the classroom. If already outside, students are escorted to the gym.
Lockdown Drill
The purpose of this drill is to emulate a situation where there is a dangerous presence in the school grounds, e.g. an angry person, or a dangerous animal. In this drill, students remain in classrooms and all entry doors are locked by staff.
Bomb Threat
In the event of a bomb threat, the protocol is dependent on the location of the bomb threat. If the threat is in a building, students evacuate to the oval. If the threat is in the school yard, students remain inside the classroom and await further instructions from leadership.
